Mona is open four days a week. Fridays to Mondays, 10am–5pm.
If you want to visit Mona, you’ll need a ticket. Pre-booking is a must. You will also need to check in with the Check in TAS app when you get here.
Please note: Mona is cashless. This includes all tickets, restaurants and bars. Bring your card.
It's still free to get in to the museum. But there’s a catch. You have to pre-book your trip and pay a deposit; if you show up, you can get your deposit back. We are restricted with numbers so we can’t have people booking and then not showing up. If you do that, the cost is $10 and a lifetime of shame.
The deposit is $10, adults and concession only. No deposit for under 18s (but booking still required).
After your visit, you will receive an email wherein you can choose to have your $10 refunded, or leave it with Daddy Walsh and he’ll pop it straight on the doggies.
For everyone else, museum entry is $30 for adults and $27 concession.
You can book timed museum entry or a wildcard. For wildcards: join the queue on the O when you get here, and we’ll let you know when you can enter the museum.
Under 18s are free, but will still need to book a timed or wildcard ticket.
Free for everyone (no booking required), but remember you’ll need to check in with the Check in TAS app. Art on the lawns and museum plaza, plus outdoor eating and drinking, plus live music daily. Plus plus. Does not include museum entry.
Our high-speed catamarans sail between Hobart’s Brooke Street Pier and Mona often, and take around twenty-five minutes one way. Please phone Ticket Support if you’d like to make a booking for a passenger under four.
There are 99 steps upon arrival at Mona. The jetty isn’t accessible for mobility aids (wheelchairs, walking frames, scooters) or prams at the moment—we apologise for this and assure you we’re working on it. If this affects you, please call Ticket Support to discuss your options.

A great option. Use the app.
We’re following advice from state and federal health authorities about how to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
- Timed and staggered museum entry;
- All visitors must check in with the Check in TAS app;
- Physical distancing controls;
- Distinct service times in our restaurants, so we can manage capacity;
- Increased cleaning;
- Advanced hygiene protocols;
- Visitor and staff record keeping.
If you are feeling unwell, please do not visit Mona. If you have booked tickets, contact us and we’ll organise a refund or exchange (see our Terms and Conditions for more info). For more information about our safety measures, please email Ticket Support at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The O is a device that provides information about the artworks on display, and performs a suite of other functions and services, too. Usually O devices are distributed to visitors upon entry but we can’t do this at the moment, for obvious, pandemic-themed reasons. Please download the app to your iPhone (available for Android mid-December), and bring your own headphones, too.
The O supports VoiceOver and screen reader functionality for people who are blind, have low vision, or are dyslexic.
Most of Mona is accessible, except for the Pausiris chamber, certain artworks (Unseen Seen, The Divine Comedy) and parts of the Round House. Motorised wheelchairs are welcome. If you would like to borrow a wheelchair, see staff at the museum entrance. Please note that wheelchairs are limited and cannot be reserved.
Accessible parking is available; head up the driveway and turn left. Look for the signs.
Please phone Ticket Support before visiting if you have specific requirements or would like to discuss transport options.

School groups are very welcome at Mona but please book at least 14 days ahead of time. To book, we require one teacher per every ten students for contact tracing.
Due to the pandemic, we won’t be handing out O devices; download the O app to your iPhone or Android device. We’ll also provide you with resources to help plan your visit.
Mona is cashless. Includes our restaurants, bars, and ticketed artworks. Bring your card.
Speak to a staff member.
If you are sensitive to strobe and rapid-movement light, speak to staff about which artworks to avoid.
The museum is mostly subterranean. Be aware if you don't like confined spaces and low lighting. Speak to staff if you need assistance.
Outside only. Please use the ashtrays provided.
No BYO on site. Sorry.
